Hit-run suspect arrested

Police yesterday arrested a 24-year-old man wanted on a $10,000 grand jury bench warrant issued July 23, the same day he was indicted for first-degree negligent homicide and failure to render aid stemming from a fatal traffic incident two years ago.

Richard Lloyd Dayton was arrested at 9:45 p.m. on Goodale Avenue in Waialua.

On Nov. 27, 2000, Dayton was allegedly driving a car that veered off the roadway and into the yard of a residence at 66-779 Hale'iwa Rd., killing 54-year-old Isaac "Ike" Kapua, who was working on his van. The car's driver fled the scene.

Man charged in May beating

A 37-year-old McCully man was charged yesterday with first-degree assault for allegedly beating a man May 20 on Queen Emma Street in a dispute over money. The beating victim, 37, suffered a collapsed lung, broken rib and torn retina.

Charles Marcus Morrison is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Tip leads to sex-assault arrest

An anonymous tip generated by a CrimeStoppers bulletin helped police locate a missing 70-year-old man wanted for questioning about a reported sex assault on a 4-year-old girl. The man was located at Queen's Medical Center and taken into custody yesterday at 4:30 p.m. Police are seeking to charge him today on multiple counts of first-degree sexual assault.

Pedestrian victim identified

The medical examiner's office today identified woman pedestrian killed Saturday in Makakilo as Emiko Dillon, 61, of Kapolei. Dillon was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a car near Palailai Street at 6:40 a.m., said police vehicular homicide investigators.

Police nab one teen escapee

Police yesterday arrested a 15-year-old girl who escaped with nine other girls from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility on Aug. 31. The girl was taken into custoday at 11:30 a.m. in Kaimuki. Three escapees remain at large.

Police catch driver in murder case

A 38-year-old Pearl City woman arrested yesterday in Salt Lake on suspicion of being the driver of a car used to transport a murder suspect from the scene of an Aug. 21 shooting in Waipahu has been released pending further investigation.

The woman was booked for first-degree hindering prosecution.

Totie Tauala, 28, is charged with killing Hayward Julio and will be arraigned in Circuit Court next Thursday.
