Julie Blue, who will be a senior majoring in fashion promotion, is working at Kailua Beach Walk this summer. Her personal style is feminine, combining classics with a few trendy pieces. In Europe, she spotted a pink suede Morgan halter top, big-puka fishnet stockings and charms for her bracelet.
Q. Where did you find them?
A. "The Paris flea market."
Q. Why did you choose them?
A. "I love suede, but it usually doesn't work in Hawai'i. This top, with its open back and halter neckline, is comfortable even in the summer heat. Fishnets are also comfortable and cool."
Q. Where did you first see the trend?
A. "I was surprised to see so many models in the Galleries Lafayette fashion show (in Paris) wearing fishnets. I had no idea they could be so versatile."
Q. What are you wearing it with now that you're home?
A. "I'm wearing the top with a white ruffled skirt I bought in London, and the fishnets are cute with my knee-length pink skirt."
Q. Where do you wear it?
A. "Out to dinner and clubs."
Q. What's a no-no?
A. "The top should not be worn with low-rise jeans or too short a skirt; it would show too much skin. Since the back of the top laces up, wearing a bra would be a mistake. The fishnets don't work with Spandex, sky-high heels or mini-skirts."
