Ice skating with the Disney touch
Disney buffs of all ages have three days left to see their favorite characters come to life through song and dance in "Disney on Ice," a nearly two-hour spectacular at the Blaisdell Arena.
Fans will be treated to the antics of Mickey Mouse and company including Jiminy Cricket, the Genie, Nala, Woody and Ariel, to name a few as well as segments featuring Gepetto's Workshop, a battle scene from "Mulan," and a tribute to the Disney princesses and princes.
Showtimes are 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. today; noon, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and 10:30 a.m., 2:30 and 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15, $25, $40 and $50, at the box office and Ticket Plus outlets. Reservations: 526-4400; 593-4439 (for group tickets).
Reaching out from Melanesia
Traditional Melanesian music and dance will fill University of Hawai'i's Andrews Amphitheatre 4:30-6 p.m. Saturday, compliments of Lifou Island Dance Theatre, a 16-member ensemble from Lifou, one of the islands of New Caledonia in the Southwest Pacific. The show is sponsored by the East-West Center Arts Program and the UH Outreach College.
"These artists bring precise, powerful and synchronized dance movements, and awesome body decoration to their performance," said William Feltz, East-West Center arts coordinator. "It's like nothing we've seen in Hawai'i before."
General admission is $12, $8 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the UH Campus Center Box Office, or at the gate on the day of the event,
'Closer Walk' held over
Zenia Zambrano is the powerhouse voice of the title character in the new Manoa Valley Theatre production, "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline." The show, which has been extended a week beyond its original schedule, is staged 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 4 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 29.
