Man arrested in traffic death

Honolulu police have arrested a 24-year-old man wanted on an O'ahu grand jury indictment July 23 charging him with first-degree negligent homicide and failure to render aid stemming from a fatal traffic accident two years ago.

Richard Lloyd Dayton was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday on Goodale Avenue in Waialua.

On Nov. 27, 2000, a car veered off the roadway and into the yard of a residence at 66-779 Hale'iwa Road, killing 54-year-old Isaac "Ike" Kapua, who was working on his van.

The car's driver fled the scene.


Anonymous tip leads to arrest

Police charged a 70-year-old man with three counts of sexual assault and two counts of attempted sexual assault on a young girl yesterday.

Lon Polk, who was wanted for questioning on a reported sex assault of a 4-year-old girl, was arrested Wednesday after police received an anonymous tip that led to him at The Queen's Medical Center at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bail is listed at $150,000.


7th teen escapee apprehended

Police on Wednesday arrested the seventh of 10 girls who escaped from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility on Aug. 31.

The 15-year-old girl was taken into custody at 11:30 a.m. in Kaimuki.


Pedestrian killed in Makakilo identified

The Medical Examiner's Office yesterday identified a pedestrian killed Saturday in Makakilo as Emiko Dillon, 61, of Kapolei.

Dillon was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a car near Palailai Street at 6:40 a.m., said police investigators.


Drowning victim from Taiwan

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — A woman who drowned Tuesday in the pool at a Kaua'i hotel has been identified as Mei-Hui Lin, 48, of Taiwan.

She was discovered in the pool of the Radisson Kaua'i Beach Resort at about 10:35 a.m. by a guest who pulled her from the water and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, said county spokeswoman Beth Tokioka.

She was later pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital. An autopsy confirmed that the woman died from drowning, Tokioka said.


Man arrested in beating death

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday in the January beating death of a 49-year-old man at Ke'ehi Boat Harbor in January.

John Frisch had already been charged on an attempted-murder charge in connection with the Jan. 28 beating of Richard Carl Lamb, but Lamb died from his injuries Feb. 12 after the attempted murder charge was filed.

Frisch was rearrested in the case on suspicion of murder in the Lamb beating case.

Police said on the night of the beating, Frisch and Lamb began arguing about 5:30 p.m. in the harbor parking lot.

The fight escalated until Frisch allegedly held the victim down, punched him and struck his head against the pavement, police said.

He fled and was arrested an hour later aboard a boat in the harbor, police said.


Auto break-ins in Makiki on video

CrimeStoppers is asking the public's help in identifying a male caught on surveillance video breaking into vehicles in a condominium parking lot in Makiki.

The incidents occurred at 1251 Heulu Street between the evening of June 1, and morning of June 2. The suspect shattered the driver's window each time to make entry, police said.

The male is described as in his late teens to early 20s, 5 feet 8, 160 pounds with a medium build. He was clean-shaven with short dark hair, and wore a dark shirt and denim shorts.

Explosive found in Makiki Heights

The Honolulu Police Department's bomb squad removed a homemade explosive from a Makiki Heights neighborhood yesterday morning.

A 51-year-old woman who was helping direct groundkeepers at her residence around 9 a.m., noticed the explosive device on her property under some bushes, and placed it at a storm drain opening, police said.

The bomb squad later picked up the object and verified that it was an improvised explosive, police said.


Man charged in May 20 beating

A 37-year-old McCully man was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault in the beating of a man May 20 on Queen Emma Street in a dispute over money.

Charles Marcus Morrison is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. The victim, 37, suffered a collapsed lung and torn retina.
