Wai'anae to hold book drive
The Wai'anae Ahupua'a Council and the Wai'anae Neighborhood Board Education Committee are collecting donated books tomorrow for children and schools on the Wai'anae Coast.
Volunteers will collect books and any reading material appropriate for children and adults to share them with schools and teachers.
A similar book drive last year collected more than 7,000 books and benefited 11 schools.
Any books not taken by the Wai'anae schools will be donated to other schools or the Friends of the Library.
Drop-off sites are the Wai'anae Mall parking lot behind Pizza Hut and Papa John's or the Butler Building in Nanakuli, across the street from Nanaikapono Elementary School, 89-188 Farrington Highway.
Donors are asked to drop off books between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

McCully crime to be discussed
A town meeting to discuss crime prevention in the McCully area will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Lunalilo Elementary School cafeteria.
Rep. Scott Saiki, D-20th (Kapahulu, Mo'ili'ili), is sponsoring the meeting after receiving many calls from residents about crime in the area.
Firefighter film to premiere
Filmmaker Edgy Lee's new one-hour television special, "A Tribute to Hawai'i's Fire Fighters," will premiere at 6:50 p.m. tomorrow during the city's Sunset on the Beach event at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki.
The film takes an in-depth look at the lives of firefighters past and present.
Sunset on the Beach begins at 4 p.m. with live entertainment and food booths.
Tomorrow's movie is "Blue Hawaii" with Elvis Presley. On Sunday, "Notting Hill" with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant will be shown. Both films begin at 7:50 p.m.
Manoa Stream cleanup set
Community group Malama O Manoa will conduct a stream cleanup from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow along a portion of Manoa Stream from the Woodlawn Drive bridge up to the Kahaloa Street bridge near Manoa Gardens at the District Park.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Woodlawn Drive bridge.

ELECTION 2002
Candidates debate on 'Olelo
Candidates for House District 24 (Manoa) will take part in a live televised debate tonight as part of the "Vote! 2002: Candidates Debate" series sponsored by 'Olelo Community Television.
That marks a change from the original debate schedule.
The debate will air from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oceanic Channel 54 and Oceanic Digital Control.
Candidates scheduled to participate are Kirk Caldwell, Tom Heinrich and Philmund Lee.
