Hospital releases Rainbows' Wallace

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Riley Wallace was released from the University Medical Center in Las Vegas yesterday.

Wallace spent seven days in the hospital after undergoing brain surgery last Friday to remove two subdural hematomas (swellings filled with blood).

Doctors upgraded Wallace's condition to good on Wednesday, and released him after a CT scan showed no more damage yesterday morning.

"We've been talking to him and he sounds real good," UH associate head coach Bob Nash said. "It looks like everything went well and he'll make a full recovery. We expect he'll be back here ready to go very shortly."

Wallace, 60, checked himself into the hospital last Thursday after complaining of severe headaches. He was in Las Vegas to meet with UH booster and hotel mogul Bill Boyd.

Wallace will remain in Las Vegas with relatives today and tomorrow. He is scheduled to return to Honolulu on Sunday.
