Women entertainers in spotlight

"Kamau Pono V: Na Wahine O Ka Mele, Na Wahine O Ka Hula (Women of Song, Women of Dance)," set for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Hawai'i Theatre, will assemble a host of notable island women singers and dancers.

Produced by Halau Na Wainohia and directed by its kumu hula, singer-dancer Tony Conjugacion, the event looms as one of the fall season's most dynamic gathering of women artists, reflecting a palette of powerful talent.

Participating singers include Teresa Bright, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, 'Iwalani Kahalewai, Auntie Genoa Keawe, Karen Keawehawai'i, Melveen Leed, Marlene Sai, and Taji.

Dancers include Coline Aiu, Auntie Leilani Alama, Aloha Dalire, Leina'ala Kalama Heine, Ka'aikaula, Healani Youn and Noenoelani Zuttermeister.

Also participating: Halau Na Wainohia and the Pua Melie Trio.

Leila Hohu Ki'aha will be musical director.
