Kapahulu motorcycle accident injures two

Advertiser Staff

A man and woman were critically injured early today when the man laid his motorcycle down in a Kapahulu intersection to avoid colliding with a tourist van.

The accident happened at about 7:50 a.m. in the intersection of Campbell Avenue and Herbert Street, police said. Both injured people were from the Honolulu area.

Police said a 35-year-old man driving a white 1989 Dodge Van with 15 Japanese visitors inside made a left turn off Herbert onto Campbell, entering the intersection at the same time as the motorcycle.

The 34-year-old motorcyclist, who had been westbound on Campbell, put the bike down to avoid hitting the van.

He and his passenger, a 39-year-old woman, were taken to The Queens Medical Center by ambulance. Both people were listed in critical condition tonight.
