Woman killed in Wai'anae wreck

A 60-year-old woman was killed last night in a two-car accident in Wai'anae.

Fire and Emergency Medical Services workers were called to 87-161 Pa'akea Road at about 6:26 p.m.

The two cars, one driven by the woman and the other occupied by two young men, appeared to have hit head-on, emergency workers said.

Passers-by assisted emergency workers in righting the woman's car, which had flipped over.

Fire and ambulance crews got the woman out without using jaws-of-life equipment, but she stopped breathing while they were removing her from the car.

The woman was taken to Wai'anae Comprehensive, where she was pronounced dead. One of the young men from the other car, a passenger, was also taken to Wai'anae.

No information was available on his condition last night.

Police traffic investigators were trying to determine what caused the accident.
