Tonight's Must-See
"Crossing Jordan," 9 p.m., NBC. In a night stuffed with premieres, the best show is still this rerun. It's powerfully written and acted. Jordan (Jill Hennessy) is a tough medical examiner, haunted by the murder of her mother. Even her father (Ken Howard), an ex-cop, can't solve it. Now she has met a man who was in a mental home with her mom. He says he'll give her information if she clears him of murder. The aftershocks are fierce, propelling next week's season-opener.
Of Note
"Big Deals: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly," 6 and 10 p.m., History Channel. No, this isn't a Clint Eastwood movie. In the go-go atmosphere of 1989, the Japanese Sony company scrambled to buy a Hollywood studio. It got Columbia Pictures, but only after some billion-dollar blunders. This fascinating story starts a four-night miniseries.
"Everwood" premiere, 8 p.m., WB. As this series begins, Treat Williams is a top New York surgeon with little time for his family. Then comes a shock that changes everything and whisks the family to a gorgeous Colorado town. Most of this hour is stylish and interesting. Unfortunately "Everwood" keeps pouring on extra touches almost to the breaking point.
