Four file to run for pair of BOE seats
Advertiser Staff
Four people have filed to run for two Board of Education seats that will be contested at the Nov. 5 general election only.
Meeting yesterday's filing deadline were Breene Harimoto and Karen James, who are running for the Leeward O'ahu seat, and Garrett Toguchi and Shannon Wood, who are running for an O'ahu at-large seat.
Both races are special elections to fill the remaining two years of terms won in 2000 by former BOE members Marilyn Harris, who resigned the Leeward District seat earlier this year, and Donna Ikeda, who stepped down to run for lieutenant governor.
Harimoto was appointed in May and Toguchi in August as interim board members until the election.
On Saturday, voters will select candidates in five BOE primary races: Central O'ahu, Windward O'ahu and three at-large seats. The top two vote-getters for each seat advance to the general election, where contests for the Leeward seat, Ikeda's at-large seat and the Maui District seat will also be held.
