'Lysistrata' updated at Kennedy Theatre

"Lysistrata," Aristophanes' political comedy with sexual overtones, will premiere 8 p.m. Oct. 25 at Kennedy Theatre, University of Hawai'i. Glenn Cannon is directing the translation by Kenneth McLeish, set outside the Acropolis turned fraternity house, which repeats at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 and 31, and Nov. 1 and 2, and 2 p.m. Nov. 3.

The update includes rock music, dance and martial, in the tale of women finding ways to take charge in a world where men traditionally call the shots.

Tickets: $12 adults, $10 seniors, military and UH staff, $8 students and $3 UH students with ID. Reservations: 956-7655.


Kumu extends 'Las Vegas' play

Kumu Kahua has held over Edward Sakamoto's "Aloha Las Vegas," by popular demand. The regular run has sold out, so performances have been added at 8 p.m. Oct. 3, 4 and 5, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6.

Tickets: $16 adults, $13 seniors and $10 students, for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows; $14 adults, $11 seniors and $5 students and unemployed on Thursdays. Reservations: 536-4441.
