Lack of trades heats up Islands

Advertiser Staff

So, who turned off the trade winds?

The lack of natural air conditioning lately which should return somewhat by Saturday has made it seem more humid than it actually is, according to National Weather Service forecaster Henry Lau.

A "blob of moisture" brought heavy rains to Windward and Central O'ahu last night, Lau said. An unrelated air mass over Kaua'i and O'ahu is expected to bring more afternoon showers and clouds today.

Lau said while the humidity level in Honolulu reached 84 percent this morning, it has consistently hovered around the 50s and 60s, which is considered normal.

"The wind is pretty much our AC," he said. "Without it, it just feels more humid."

As for the weekend, Lau said a cold front will probably stall west of Kaua'i, bringing possible heavy showers to Kaua'i and O'ahu on Saturday.
