Gabbard, Djou topping council votes

City Council newcomers Mike Gabbard and Charles Djou took early leads, while other key races remained too close to call after the second printout of voting.In races where no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be a runoff between the top two vote-getters in the general election.
Gabbard had garnered 620 votes, or about 30.2 percent of the District 1 ('Ewa,Wai'anae) balloting. He was followed in the nonpartisan race by: Pam Witty-Oakland, 389; John Kaopua, 324; Cynthia Rezentes, 231; Donna Broome, 136; Mike Chambrella, 55; James Manaku, 44.
In the council's District 4 (Makapu'u, Kaka'ako), Charles Djou ledwith 3, 322; Robert Fishman, 2,334; Mike Abe, 1,633; Terrence Teruya, 407.

City Council District 2 (Mililani Mauka, Wahiawa, the North Shore and Ahuimanu) Donovan Dela Cruz, 926; Gerald Hagino, 874; Ernie Martin, 461; Kekoa Kaapu, 293; Charles Penn, 103.
