Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i defensive back Hyrum Peters was one of three Western Athletic Conference football players honored as players of the week, the conference announced today.

Peters, a junior from Kahuku High School, had a career-high 13 tackles, 10 of them unassisted, in the Warriors' 31-6 win over Texas-El Paso on Saturday.

Peters also had two interceptions, combining for 45 return yards, that set up two Hawai'i scores.

Nevada quarterback, Zack Threadgill, and San Jose State kicker Nick Gilliam were honored as the offensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.

Threadgill earned his second consecutive offensive player of the week honor in leading the Wolf Pack to a 31-21 win over Rice. The senior completed 30 of 36 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns.

Gilliam connected on a 37-yard field goal as time ran out to lift San Jose State to a 38-35 win over Illinois at Champaign, Ill., on Saturday.

The Warriors' backup quarterback, Shawn Withy-Allen, was nominated for the offensive player of the week award, while UH linebacker Noa Kilinahe was nominated for special teams.
