Whieldon returns to UH football team

Advertiser Staff

Jason Whieldon, who had left the University of Hawai'i football team because of family reasons two weeks ago, returned to school yesterday, UH coach June Jones announced today.

Jones said he had not spoken with Whieldon since last week, when Whieldon said he was quitting the team to remain with his family in Orange County, Calif.

Jones said he would not determine Whieldon's status on the depth chart until later this week. Shawn Withy-Allen, a fifth-year senior who was promoted to the top backup to starter Tim Chang, threw two scoring passes and ran for a touchdown in the Warriors' 31-6 victory over Texas-El Paso on Saturday in the Sun Bowl.

Jones today said Chang will remain as the No. 1 quarterback despite struggling against UTEP.

The Warriors play host to Southern Methodist on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
