The driver of a Toyota Corolla was not seriously injured after colliding with a Honolulu Police Department vehicle near the intersection of Kapi'olani Boulevard and Cooke Street yesterday morning.

Driver collides with officer in Kaka'ako

A woman and police officer escaped serious injury yesterday in a 7:30 a.m. collision at the intersection of Cooke Street and Kapi'olani Boulevard.

The flow of rush-hour traffic was not affected.

Police Sgt. Curtis Sakamoto said the officer entered the intersection heading mauka on Cooke Street with his siren on and blue lights flashing in response to report of a fight at Ward Avenue and Kina'u Street.

He collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by the woman, who was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in stable condition. The officer suffered cuts to his arm.


Motorcyclist hurt critically in crash

A 20-year-old Moanalua man who crashed his motorcycle Monday evening near the Gulick Avenue overpass remained in critical condition last night at The Queen's Medical Center. He had left the H-1 Freeway and was on the Middle Street off-ramp when he crashed at 9:57 p.m., police said. He was wearing a helmet.


Missing kayakers turn up safe

Police yesterday found a Long Beach, Calif., woman who had been sought by firefighters Monday night after the kayak she rented was found on the beach near Dune Circle in Kailua.

Officer Joe Self of the Missing Persons Detail said the woman and her niece were found yesterday at a Waikiki hotel. They had left the kayak on the beach because they could not drag it back to the concession, Self said.


Three charged in Waikiki holdup

Police have charged a 20-year-old with second-degree robbery after he was identified by a man robbed Saturday night in Waikiki.

Jason Garner, of no known permanent local address, and two 16-year-old boys were identified by the man, 26, who reported being assaulted and robbed of his wallet on the 1900 block of Kalakaua Avenue at 12:50 a.m.

The arrests were made yesterday on Pau Street.

Garner is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail. The two teens have been sent to the Alder Street detention facility pending charges.


Gunshot victim won't give details

A 25-year-old man with no known permanent local address remains in stable condition at The Queen's Medical Center after being shot in the chest Monday night, police said.

The man was brought to the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Center at 9:20 p.m. and later transferred to Queen's.

He is believed to have been shot on the beach in Makaha, but police said he is not cooperating with the investigation.


Body found at harbor identified

The medical examiner's office yesterday identified the body recovered at Ala Wai Yacht Harbor yesterday as Alvin Frank Neal, 83.

The body was found shortly before 11 a.m. behind Neal's sailboat, Wind Passage, moored at slip No. 99. Injuries were consistent with an accidental fall, police said after conferring with an investigator from the medical examiner's office. They said it appeared that Neal had drowned after a fall.


Man charged in bank robbery

The FBI on Monday charged 32-year-old Sonny Hoopai with robbing the HomeStreet Bank last Tuesday. Hoopai was arrested Saturday at a hotel in Waikiki.


Woman charged with auto theft

A woman, 19, was charged with auto theft Monday.

Tiffany Ikeda is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail. She was in a car parked on Pupukahi Street in Waipahu's Weed & Seed anti-crime district when she was arrested Sunday at 10:17 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy also was arrested, but released pending further investigation.


Man arrested after ramming his own car

A 34-year-old Kuli'ou'ou man was arrested after he rammed his car into another of his vehicles that was being stolen early yesterday, police said.

Police say the man, who lives on Kuli'ou'ou Road, saw someone driving off with his car at 12:34 a.m. He jumped into another car and chased the robber down Kalaniana'ole Highway, ramming it from behind at high speed, police said.

The man was arrested on attempted murder charges. The 16-year-old boy believed to be the driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested on auto theft charges.
