Rose sparkles at Harvard

By Dennis Anderson
Advertiser Staff Writer

Senior quarterback Neil Rose became Harvard's career football total offense leader Saturday.

Before he left the game late in the third period after taking a jolting hit, Rose completed 19 of 22 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also rushed for 43 yards in Harvard's 28-23 season-opening victory over Holy Cross.

The 283 yards in total offense boosted Rose's career total to 5,252 yards. He already held Harvard's career records in passing yards and touchdown passes, which he increased to 4,751 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Rose also tied Harvard's single-game record for completion percentage (more than 20 attempts) with .864 against Holy Cross. He now holds or shares 13 school records.

Rose, a 1998 University High graduate and former Pac-Five quarterback from Mililani, has led Harvard to 10 straight victories, the Crimson's longest winning streak since 1912-14.

This is the 129th season of Harvard football. The Crimson played its first game on May 14, 1874.
