Tonight's Must-See

"Friends" season opener, 7 p.m., NBC. Last season ended wonderfully with new mom Rachel mistakenly thinking Joey had proposed. She promptly accepted. That continues in this season opener. Monica and Chandler return to a closet, hoping to make a baby of their own.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" season-opener, 8 p.m., and "Without a Trace" premiere, 9 p.m., CBS. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer casts top actors and gets smart scripts. "CSI" starts its third season with Grissom probing big-money poker players. Then "Without a Trace" has a crack FBI team looking for missing people.

Of Note

"The Civil War," 8 p.m., PBS. Here's the conclusion of Ken Burns' brilliant documentary series.
