Blaze destroys Kailua home

An early morning fire today gutted a residence at 185 Kailua Road, causing an estimated $315,000 damage to the structure, contents and an adjacent studio.

The 12:35 a.m. fire was reported under control at 1:13 a.m. Eight fire companies reported to the scene.

A woman and two men who were in the house escaped uninjured. The cause is under investigation.

Man arrested after forgery

Police yesterday arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to cash a forged stolen check.

He was arrested while meeting with his probation officer yesterday morning after being identified in a photographic lineup.

The man allegedly attempted to cash a $1,450 check at a Kalihi bank.

A teller, however, refused to honor the check without confirmation from the account holder, who later told the bank the check had been stolen from his vehicle.

Four nabbed in prostitution sting

Police vice officers last night arrested four women on suspicion of prostitution in a sting operation at 134 Kapahulu Ave.

The four women, ages 18, 27, 29 and 30, were charged with promoting prostitution. All were released after posting bail.
