Nuns to present series of talks
Sister Grace Gallant will talk about her six months at St. Paul's Chapel, ministering to the rescue workers who toiled at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks.
"That terribly broken place," she said in a phone interview from Boston before heading to Hawai'i for a series of presentations. "We were trying to put back some order, reverse the damage that was done that day."
She and another nun from the Society of St. Margaret, an Episcopal convent in Boston, will also discuss the "ministry of radical hospitality" and vocations in Anglican/Episcopal religious orders.
Sister Ann Whittaker from the convent will also be on hand for free talks at:

- 7 p.m. Friday at Calvary Episcopal Church in Kane'ohe, 247-2733.
- A talk and "semi-potluck" picnic, 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church, 955-7745.
Friends Meeting hosts workshop
The Honolulu Friends Meeting will host a free workshop, "Being a Quaker in Difficult Times an Activist Explores the Mystical and the Mundane," Nov. 1-3 at the meeting house, 2426 O'ahu Ave.
The leader of the workshop will be Laura Magnani, program director for justice and youth of the Pacific Mountain Region on the American Friends Service Committee, from Berkeley, Calif.
Topics to be discussed include an exploration of the mystical, how we experience the divine and what it leads us to do, a hands-on look at new forms of justice from the American Friends Service Committee, and an open session about being a Quaker in difficult times. Call 988-2714.
Meditation retreat slated for Oct. 12
Gavin Harrison, author of "In the Lap of the Buddha," will discuss the process of thinking as part of a retreat, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12, at the Palolo Zen Center, 2747 Wai'oma'o Road.
The event will also include silent meditation for both the beginner and those experienced at meditating. Sitting and walking meditation instruction will be offered.
