Mink services planned for Friday, Abercrombie says

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Hawai'i today mourned the passing of Rep. Patsy Mink as many of her colleagues in Congress made plans to fly to Honolulu for a memorial service tentatively set for Friday.

U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat who represents Hawai'i's 1st District, said today that tentative plans are being made for a public service for Mink on Friday, probably at the Capitol. Abercrombie spoke to the press at his campaign headquarters on Kapi'olani Boulevard.

Gov. Ben Cayetano will make the official announcement about the service, Abercrombie said.

Mink, a Democrat who represented Hawai'i's 2nd District for 12 terms, died yesterday at Straub Clinic & Hospital, where she had been treated since Aug. 30 for viral pneumonia stemming from chickenpox.
