Hana Hou! music series kicks off Oct. 18

With "A Vintage Voyage" as the overall theme, the 2002-2003 Hana Hou! Hawaiian Music Series at the Hawai'i Theatre a popular downtown cultural event will assemble six seasoned island acts of diverse musical styles, starting in October.
The series is produced by Burton White, Hawai'i Theatre Center artistic director and general manager, and will include these shows:
- Oct. 18 Sean Na'auao, whose musical pendulum swings from traditional to contemporary Hawaiian.
- Nov. 15 Kalapana, the seminal '70s band that mixes contemporary island sounds with elements of blues and jazz.
- Jan. 17 The Makaha Sons, the group showcasing Louis "Moon" Kauakahi, Jerome Koko and John Koko, who are equally at home in traditional Hawaiian, hapa-haole and contemporary Hawaiian music.
- March 7 The Brothers Cazimero, the duo featuring Robert and Roland Cazimero, who specialize in putting a new spin on traditional and contemporary island sounds.
- April 4 Olomana, the group known for the vocals of Jerry Santos, who has been a pivotal figure in the survival of contemporary island music.
- May 16 Uluwehi Guerrero, the Maui-based singer, who is known for his falsetto riches and a deep appreciation for romantic island music.
Curtain time is 8 p.m., but pre-show music, featuring up-and-coming acts, begins at 7:30 p.m.
