Tiffany Lee, a graduate of the University of Hawai'iiManoa school of architecture, has placed second for her project "Charlie and the Amazing Oompa-Loompa Adventure" in the national Walt Disney Imagi-Nations 2002 University Design Competition in Glendale, Calif.

Lee's entry was a ride inspired by the book "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Canoe Girls donates shirts

Kalihi-Palama Health Center's Health Care for the Homeless Project recently received 50 donated University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior T-shirts donated by Canoe Girl Productions, which has offered to donate 50 more every month until the discontinued line is gone.

"We are very grateful to Canoe Girl Productions for their donation. We plan to give the shirts to our clients who are homeless. Most of these folks have very little in the way of material items. It's a good feeling to be able to give them something they can enjoy," said Leslie Uyehara, HCHP's director.

The program serves chronically homeless adults on O'ahu who suffer from severe mental illnesses. It has six clinics in the Kalihi-Palama area, with outreach services islandwide.

Foodbank gets $35,000 grant

Hawaii Foodbank has received $35,000 from The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation.

"We know this donation will provide some relief for the Hawaii Foodbank's resources and boost its ability to feed O'ahu's hungry families," said foundation president Allen Doane. "As a result of a slowed economy and social service reform, food banks are seeing an influx of requests for assistance."

The grant comes from A&B Foundation's Manawale'a fund.

Hawaii Foodbank is a nonprofit organization that collects, warehouses and distributes mass quantities of perishable and nonperishable food to help feed Hawai'i's hungry.
