BEADIE KANAHELE DAWSON, Hawaiian community activist and former attorney representing Na Pua a ke Ali'i Pauahi organization of Kamehameha Schools students, alumni and parents, has joined the local law firm of Dwyer Schraff Meyer Jossem & Bushnell, as "of counsel." Dawson is an experienced litigator in land and transportation matters and is a former state deputy attorney general. She is chief executive officer of Dawson Group Inc., an environmental, construction and information technology services firm.

Also joining Dwyer Schraff Meyer Jossem & Bushnell is STEVE GOLDSTEIN, "as counsel," in the field of intellectual property, and VALERIE KATO, as an associate, specializing in commercial litigation and employment law.

ROBERT MIKDIFF, longtime Hawai'i businessman and former chairman of Bishop Trust Co., has been re-elected as chairman of the nonprofit Hawaii Theatre Center. The appointment comes at the beginning of the theater's 80th anniversary. Serving with Midkiff on the board are vice chairpersons MARY WEYAND, MICHAEL PFEFFER, TRISH O'NEILL and AL TOMONARI; secretary, GAYE GLASER; and treasurer, PAUL SCHRAFF. Among other directors are community volunteers KIT DOBELLE; attorney RICK FRIED, and DONNA TANOUE, vice chairman, Bank of Hawaii, and former chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC).

• The Ala Moana Hotel has announced two additions to its food service staff: ALAN Y. AKISADA, director of catering, overseeing catering sales as well as hotel banquet facilities; and RYAN DAY, executive chef.

NEAL BRUM has been promoted by Atlantis Adventures to manager of information systems, overseeing computer and technology support systems for its Hawai'i operations, including reservations, purchasing, administration and accounting.

MARTK HOUGHTON has been named vice president of maritime operations for the statewide operations of Hawaiian Tug & Barge and Young Brothers Ltd. He was former director of marine transportation sales for HTB/YB sister company, Foss Maritime Co. in Seattle.

FRANK P. RICHARDSON has joined Kaiser Permanente Hawai'i as an attorney — working locally in its regional counsel's office and as a member of the Health and Regulatory Practice Group in the organization's national Legal Department. Richardson was recently with the law firm of Rush Moore Craven Sutton Morry & Beh, as the partner in charge of its Health Care Law Division.

JOHN HART, program chairman and professor of communication at Hawai'i Pacific University, has been named to the newly created position of assistant dean of the College of Communication. Before joining HPU in 1999, Hart served as associate professor of communications and director of forensics at Truman State University, Mo.

Two appointments have been announced by Bank of Hawaii:

  • BRIAN T. STEWART has been promoted to senior vice president and manager of management reporting, overseeing the bank's financial reports for internal business lines and overall budget for Bank of Hawaii Corp. He joined the bank last year as vice president and finance officer for the retail and investment services segments of the bank.
  • JOHN GRAY has joined the bank as executive vice president, and manager of the Mortgage Banking Division. The 20-year lending industry veteran has also held management positions at Bank of America and Wells Fargo & Co.

LIUONE FAAGAI has been named employment and employee relations manager for The Kamehameha Schools. The 10-year human resource industry veteran was most recently human resources manager for Del Monte Fresh Produce (HI) Inc., and has worked at The Queen's Medical Center and The King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.
