TIP-OFF
Kikaida becoming frequent isle visitor

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Kikaida, the Japanese superhero to several generations of fans, will make yet another comeback in Hawai'i — on film, in person and on DVD.

Kikaida has been a superhero to kids in Hawai'i and Japan since the 1970s, provoking so much nostalgia that the android will star at a half-time show at the UH-Nevada football game on Oct. 12.
The 1972 3-D Kikaida classic, "Tobidasu! Ningen Kikaida (Jumping Out! Android Kikaida)," will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Park. The movie originally was distributed by Toei and was one of the most popular imports in its time. Jiro (actor Ban Daisuke) and Kikaida will make appearances as part of Children and Youth Month festivities. Admission is free.

Kikaida also will be part of the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors' homecoming game, joining the UH Rainbow Marching Band in the half-time show at the UH-Nevada game at Aloha Stadium on Oct. 12.

Vintage Kikaida TV shows will be released on Kikaida DVD, Vol. 1, on Oct. 15.
