Two lose cash to Ala Wai thief

A masked gunman robbed two men of an undisclosed amount of cash today on the Ala Wai promenade. No injuries were reported in the 1 a.m. incident.

The victims, ages 50 and 23, told police the gunman's face was partially covered by a blue bandanna. The suspect fled on foot toward Kalakaua Avenue.


Six arrested in gambling raid

Police last night arrested six people and seized two video machines and more than $8,000 cash in a raid on an illegal gambling operation at 1361 Mo'oka'ula St. in Kalihi.

The 9 p.m. raid was conducted by the Kalihi Crime Reduction Unit and officers from the Specialized Services Division. It is the second time in recent months that the gambling operation has been raided.

The six people charged with promoting gambling were arraigned today in District Court. They are Phoung Diggs, 52; Xi Di He, 37; Rene Acidera Ranches, 58; Fiafia Samuela, 34; Patrick Trinh, 41, and Tasi Vaivai, 29.


Witness sought in hit-and-run

Police are seeking witnesses to a March 25 hit-and-run accident in Hau'ula at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Pipilani Street. At 8:17 p.m., a 26-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck from behind by a gold compact car headed toward Kane'ohe.

The bicyclist suffered broken ribs and head injuries.
