Q&A
Q. The U.S. government and its military briefers keep talking about coalition forces. How many troops are involved besides the U.S. forces?
A. About 48,000. But 45,000 of those are British troops. Other contributors: Australia, 2,000; Poland, 200; the Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia, 400; and Denmark, which sent the crews of a submarine and an escort vessel. The U.S. contingent soon will be nearly 350,000.
South Korea is to dispatch 600 military engineers and 100 medics to join the coalition.
