100th, 442nd teamed up for World War II glory

On June 12, 1942, the Hawai'i Provisional Battalion — 29 officers and 1,432 enlisted men — became the Army's 100th Infantry Battalion, Separate.

In September 1943, the 100th Battalion landed in Italy, and over the next nine months it engaged in numerous battles.

When the newly activated 442nd Regimental Combat Team arrived in Italy in June 1944, it was joined by the battle-tested 100th — thus forming the legendary "Go for Broke" unit that would make military history.

The 60th anniversary reunion of the 442nd ends today. For information, call the 442nd Veteran's Club at 949-7997.
