Advertiser Staff

Big Island police have identified a tourist who was hit by a car and killed while riding her bicycle Friday.

Police say Debra Kelly, 50, of Pagosa, Colo., was riding her bike on the northbound shoulder of Route 270 in North Kohala at about 4:20 p.m. when she was hit from behind by a 1998 Plymouth sedan driven by a 23-year-old Waikoloa woman.

The victim's husband, who was riding ahead of her, was not injured.

Kelly was pronounced dead at 5:14 p.m. at North Kohala Hospital.

Hawai'i County police, who are investigating the accident, said an autopsy will be performed.

Alcohol was not a contributing factor, investigators said.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
