UH beats San Diego State

Chelsea Garner-Prohs' goal with 1 minute, 16 seconds to go gave eighth-ranked Hawai'i a 4-3 upset over sixth-ranked San Diego State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine (8-11 and 3-5 in the conference) closed out their home schedule. San Diego State is 14-9 and 4-6.

Beth Novick scored two goals and Karin van Hoff, playing her final home game as a Rainbow Wahine, scored one.

Casey Finnegan, Chelsy Smith and Holly Hartzell scored for the Aztecs. Aztec coach Carin Crawford was ejected for bumping an official with 1:39 to go.

The Rainbow Wahine finish the regular season with road games April 11-13 at Santa Clara, San Jose State and Stanford.



BASEBALL

• O'ahu, Hawai'i in AJA championship: O'ahu and Hawai'i advanced to today's final of the Hawai'i State AJA Tournament at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo.

Ryan Yamamoto pitched a nine-hit shutout to lift O'ahu past Kaua'i, 6-0, yesterday. Lane Nogawa had three hits for O'ahu.

Alton Penrose went 3-for-4 to lead Hawai'i to a 14-3 victory over Maui.

Kaua'i meets Maui for third place at 9:30 a.m. today, followed by O'ahu vs. Hawai'i.



TRACK AND FIELD

• Kamehameha sweeps: The Kamehameha boys and girls track and field teams swept the team titles in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Intermediate Championships yesterday at the Punahou School track.

MEETING

• Inoue, Roper at QB Club: Ultimate fighter Egan Inoue and University of Hawai'i basketball player Christen Roper are the featured speakers at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club.

The club's luncheon is at 11:30 a.m., followed by the program at noon at Pagoda Restaurant.

Also scheduled to speak is Scott Kaalele, co-host of the SBTC Sports Hawai'i radio show.



TENNIS

• Kaiser, Pearl City win: The Kaiser boys and Pearl City girls won the O'ahu Interscholastic Association tennis team Championships yesterday at Central O'ahu Tennis Complex.

Kaiser beat Roosevelt 3-2, and Pearl City beat Moanalua 3-2.
