Man pleads not guilty in Ala Wai Canal death

Advertiser Staff

A Kaka'ako man accused of causing a 71-year-old jogger's death by shoving him into the Ala Wai Canal last June, pleaded not guilty yesterday to second-degree murder.

Circuit Judge Dan Kochi set a tentative trial date of June 19 for Cline Kahue, 48, who is accused of pushing former Honolulu Star-Bulletin freelance writer Jack Wyatt into the canal. Wyatt suffered head injuries and drowned.

Circuit Judge Reynaldo Graulty last week found Kahue mentally fit to stand trial. He is being held at the Hawai'i State Hospital in Kane'ohe.
