UH golf teams struggle

The University of Hawai'i men's and women's golf teams struggled in the tournaments on the Mainland yesterday.

The UH men finished last in the 18-team field of the 56th Annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif. The Warriors shot a three-round total of 115-over-par 955 at the Pasatiempo Golf Course.

UCLA won with a 15-over 855, followed by UC-Irvine at 862 and Texas-El Paso at 868.

Steve Conway of UCLA won medalist honors with a 2-under 208. James Beston was the top Warrior golfer, shooting 18-over 228 and tying for 57th.

The UH women placed 17th in the 22-team field of the Utah Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah. The Rainbow Wahine shot a three-round total of 98-over-par 962 at the Sunbrook Golf Course.

UNLV won with a 42-over 906, followed by San Francisco at 909 and Denver at 918.

Jordan Auten of San Francisco won medalist honors with a 2-over 218. Tara Chappell was the top Rainbow Wahine golfer, shooting 18-over 234 and tying for 36th.



WRESTLING

• Lee at Iolani clinic: NCAA wrestling champion Travis Lee of Cornell University will be the head clinician at the Iolani Wrestling Clinic, June 9-13, at the school's Father Bray Gym.

Lee, a Saint Louis alum, captured the NCAA wrestling crown at 125 pounds last month at Kansas City, Mo.

The clinic is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Call the Iolani athletic department at 943-2208.
