Sweep of USC lights up UH Senior Night

Advertiser Staff

Soon after completing a 32-30, 30-23, 30-22 victory over Southern California tonight, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team threw a farewell party for its four seniors.

The festivities included piles of lei, a video tribute and a haka from Mike Wilton, UH's famously stoic head coach.

The thing was, Costas Theocharidis, Tony Ching, Eyal Zimet and Brian Nordberg were not ready to say "aloha."

"It's not over yet," said Theocharidis, a three-time All-America outside hitter from Greece. "The best is yet to come."

Indeed, the Warriors will host Pacific Saturday in the opening round of the eight-team Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament. The tournament winner earns the league's automatic berth in the NCAA final four.
