BYUH, HPU reach tennis final

Brigham Young-Hawai'i and Hawai'i Pacific men's and women's tennis teams advanced to the Pacific West Conference finals today at Billings, Mont.

The winners of the finals earn berths into the Division II Regional Championships next month.

The BYUH men remained perfect with a 7-0 second-round victory over host Montana State Billings yesterday. HPU, the defending conference champion, also is unbeaten in the tournament after a 6-0 victory over Hawai'i-Hilo.

BYUH is seeded first in the tournament, HPU second. In a consolation match, Western New Mexico defeated Chaminade, 5-4.

In today's matches at Rose Park beginning at 5 a.m. Hawai'i time, Billings and Chaminade play for fifth, followed by the championship between BYUH and HPU and the third-place match between UH-Hilo and Western New Mexico.

In the women's tournament, No. 1 BYUH remained unbeaten with a 5-0 victory over Montana State Bilings. No. 2 HPU defeated UH-Hilo, 5-2. In a consolation match, Chaminade defeated Western New Mexico, 5-2.

In today's matches, beginning at 5 a.m. Hawai'i time, Hilo and Chaminade play for fifth, followed by Montana State Billings and Western New Mexico for third and BYUH and HPU for the title.
