Unbeaten Moanalua holds off McKinley

Advertiser Staff

The Moanalua High School girls basketball team used a 10-1 run late in the fourth period last night to pull away from visiting McKinley, 53-42, in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division showdown.

The victory helped the Menehunes (6-0) move into a tie for first place in the East with Kahuku, also 6-0. The Red Raiders had a bye this weekend. McKinley fell to 4-2.

Patti Hardimon scored a team-high 18 points and Kepua Lee added 12 points for Moanalua, which won despite 22 points from Tigers center Amber Lee.

The Menehunes led 23-18 at halftime before McKinley started the third quarter with a 5-0 run on a basket by Lee and a 3-pointer by Bre Carson.

But a free throw by Hardimon gave Moanalua the lead again at 24-23, and the Menehunes never trailed again.
