THE LEFT LANE
Jewelry by design

Advertiser Staff and News Services

In a show of three approaches to jewelry-making, three women designers are displaying their work at the botanical garden and art gallery complex known as the Gallery & Gardens, at 47-754 Lamaula Road in Kahalu'u.

Jane Metcalf works with dichroic glass (above), Carol Price crafts her pieces from African trade and amber beads, and Gillian van Royen creates what she describes as "elaborate beaded art jewels."

The artists will offer on-site demonstrations. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The free show is open through April 28. Information: 239-8146.

File taxes curbside

The federal income tax deadline hits tomorrow, but the postal service is prepared.

To accommodate last-minute filers, the postal service is again offering personal curbside service until 10 p.m. tomorrow at the main post office (adjacent to the Honolulu Airport) and the downtown station on Richards Street. Those locations and 25 others will accept tax mail until midnight tomorrow in specially marked collection boxes.

There won't be stamp sales, however, so be sure to have affixed the proper postage.

Light for aging eyes

Catch an illuminating glimpse of the future when internationally known lighting designer Naomi Miller presents a virtual seminar in Hawai'i to discuss "Lighting for the Aging Eye," on April 23.

Miller and Joan Roberts, a Fordham University professor specializing in optics, will be beamed live into a local discussion on lighting and how it affects an aging American population, in the seminar running from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Hawaiian Electric Co. training room in downtown Honolulu. Cost is $30, including refreshments.
