Tonight's Must-See

"Soul Food," 7 p.m., Showtime. Last week's season-opener plunged into melodrama — complete with a stalker. Tonight's hour is on the solid ground of human drama. It views aftershocks of feminism. Yes, women have abortion choices and, yes, they have expanding careers. Still, there are no easy answers. Bird (Malinda Williams) learns she's pregnant again. Her busy sister, attorney Teri (Nicole Ari Parker), gets a tempting offer for a part-time job. These stories aren't about the issues: They're portraits of people struggling with choices. Subtly written and beautifully acted, this is a well-made hour.

Of Note

"The Wedding Singer" (1998), 6 p.m., TNT. This comedy about a jilted musician and a waitress became a box-office hit. It stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

"Dawson's Creek," 7 p.m., WB. The "Loveline" hosts Adam Corolla and Drew Pinsky do a benefit session. They soon find themselves working on the romantic and sexual relationship between Joey (Katie Holmes) and Eddie (Oliver Hudson, who is Kate Hudson's brother and Goldie Hawn's son). Meanwhile, Audrey returns from rehab with her sights on Pinsky.

"American Idol," 7:30 p.m., Fox. And then there were seven. Tonight one more will leave the popular talent show.

"Wanda at Large," 8:30 p.m., Fox. A surprise goes too far and leaves Wanda thinking she's been robbed.

"Avoiding Armageddon," 9 p.m., PBS. Part three of this serious documentary views the threat of Osama bin Laden and others.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. After winning a controversial case, a defense lawyer is gunned down outside a restaurant. The resulting case has McCoy facing his longtime friend, Danielle.
