Fire caused major interior damage to a bottom-floor den of a three-story concrete home at 2765 Round Top Drive last night. Nine fire companies responded to the 11:47 p.m. alarm and brought the blaze under control by 12:10 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates will be assessed today, said Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada.
No serious injuries were reported but a woman resident was treated at scene for chest pains, said Tejada.
Man charged with threatening officer
A 38-year-old Kalihi Valley man was charged yesterday with terroristic threatening for allegedly pointing a loaded gun at an off-duty police officer who had responded to a call for assistance from his brother about a motorist tailgating him on the H-1 Freeway.
Derek Keala Peterson is also charged with three firearm violations, including possession of an unregistered pistol. His bail was set at $25,000.
Peterson was arrested Tuesday at 2:35 p.m. at Date and Pa'aina streets.
Four sought in pair of armed robberies
Police are looking for four men who were involved in two separate armed robberies yesterday.
In one incident a woman was slashed with a knife at Hale'iwa Beach, and in the other incident a man was hit on the head with a sawed-off shotgun at the Pagoda Hotel.
Neither victim was seriously injured, police said.
The woman, 25, was attacked at about 9 p.m. while walking on the beach. She told police a man grabbed her from behind, held a knife to her throat and demanded money. When she refused, the man slashed her across the chest and fled on foot.
At 6:30 a.m. yesterday, a 30-year-old man was robbed by three men who forced their way into his hotel room. Police said the man was struck with the shotgun, forced to lie on the floor and covered with a sheet as the suspects searched his room. The men fled with cash and other undisclosed items.
Hawai'i fugitive found in San Diego
A 34-year-old man who was wanted in Hawai'i in connection with the sexual assault of a girl was arrested Saturday in San Diego, Calif.
Francisco R. Mendes was wanted on a grand jury indictment and was the subject of a CrimeStoppers bulletin. He was arrested by federal authorities in San Diego and is expected to be extradited to Hawai'i next month to stand trial, police said.
Juveniles arrested in clinic vandalism
Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with the vandalism of the Planned Parenthood O'ahu clinic on Oct. 23.
The three were arrested following a police CrimeStoppers bulletin that showed two girls and a boy at the door of the clinic. Police would not release information on the arrests because the suspects are juveniles.
The case has been turned over to the FBI.
