2 charged in theft of parking meter

Two men were charged with fourth-degree theft after police found them with a stolen parking meter yesterday in Kailua.

Officers were called to a drainage ditch at 'Akipola and 'Akiohala streets in Enchanted Lake because of a report of loud banging. They found the two men, both 20, trying to smash open a parking meter.

The men were arrested and charged after the officers learned that the meter had been cut off its pole near the parking lot of the Kailua McDonald's.

Thief claims to be police officer

A man told police yesterday that he was robbed Monday by a man who pretended to be a law enforcement officer.

The 41-year-old victim was sitting in his parked car in the 46-300 block of Kahuipa Street in Kane'ohe when he was approached by a man in jeans and a black T-shirt.

The man, described as about 5-feet-10 and 160 pounds, showed the victim a police badge and a semiautomatic handgun while demanding the victim's money and driver's license. After receiving both, the thief fled.
