Honolulu triathlete wins age group

Wendy Minor of Honolulu won her age group at the Xterra Saipan Championships on Saturday.

Minor, 57, competing in the women's 55-59 age group, finished the triathlon in 4 hours, 44 minutes and 37 seconds.

The race in the Northern Mariana Islands included a 1.5-kilometer ocean swim, a 30-kilometer mountain bike ride and a 12-kilometer trail run.

The Saipan Championships is one of 51 races in eight countries this year. The Saipan event served as a qualifier for the Nissan Xterra World Championship in Maui.

Jason Chalker of Sydney, Australia, won the men's professional division, finishing in 2:40:26.

Jaime Whitmore, of Elk Grove, Calif., captured the women's professional category in 3:05:59.



FOOTBALL

• Blast looking for players: The Pacific Blast, which competed as an independent team last season, has been accepted into the Women's Professional Football League, and is looking to expand its roster.

The Blast will play 10 regular-season games in the WPFL this season, including five home games at Aloha Stadium.

The team maintains a roster of 30 players, but is looking to add 20 to 30 additional players.

There will be two camps for women ages 18 and older on April 27 and May 11. Both camps will be at Central O'ahu Park from noon to 5 p.m.

There is a $30 fee for the camp and a $30 fee for the tryout, or $50 for both. Coaches are also being sought.
