EPA to recognize five Hawai'i groups

The Environmental Protection Agency will present environmental awards today to five Hawai'i groups for their efforts to preserve the environment during 2002.
They are:
Linda Lewis, Ronnie Lanier and Jim Tayon of Hickam Air Force Base, for their work on an environmentally preferable purchasing program.
Suzanne Jones of the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Environmental Services, Gretchen Ammerman of the state Department of Health and state Rep. Mina Morita D-14th (Kapa'a-Hanalei), for their work on the state's container deposit law, commonly known as the Bottle Bill.
A Kualapu'u (Moloka'i) School program called Providing Resolutions with Integrity for a Sustainable Moloka'i, for work on environmental issues, combining educational opportunities and building partnerships.
'Ohi'a Productions, for its environmental education work using troupes of entertainers and puppets, which reached 35,000 school kids last year.
John McHugh and Lynn Constanides of Crop Care Hawai'i, who provide pest-control consulting services, aid in getting financial assistance and other help to immigrant independent farmers.
Plaques will be presented at the agency's environmental awards program in San Francisco.
