Workshops show ways to get into college

Advertiser Staff

Harvard grad Gen Tanabe has returned to his hometown to show high schoolers how to visit colleges virtually and brag about themselves to scholarship judges, in a series of free workshops.

"Hawai'i students face additional challenges when it comes to getting into and paying for college," he said.

"It's harder to research colleges and learn about financial aid opportunities, but there are ways to bridge the gap."

The Waialua High grad — who co-authored "Get Into Any College" and "Get Free Cash For College" with his wife, Kelly — will hold workshops at these high schools:

  • Castle: cafeteria, 7 p.m. tonight.
  • Roosevelt: library, 6:30 p.m. Monday .
  • Kealakehe: cafeteria, 6:30 p.m. April 29.
  • Hilo: cafeteria, 6:30 p.m. April 30.
