Tonight's Must-See

"Backstage at the Merrie Monarch," 7 p.m., KITV. Paula Akana, who will host KITV's Merrie Monarch broadcast, reviews the judging criteria and offers highlights of the upcoming hula competition.

"American Masters: Muddy Waters: Can't Be Satisfied," 8 p.m., PBS. Muddy Waters was working Mississippi farms by day and playing juke joints at night when a folk historian found and recorded him. He moved to Chicago in 1943. Then he recorded "Rollin' Stone" and "I Can't Be Satisfied," for the Chess label. His music would help shape rock 'n' roll, as Keith Richards (of the Rolling Stones) and others note here.

"Extreme Makeover" debut, 9:10 p.m., ABC. We get to see two dramatic makeovers. Viewers might be repulsed by the shallowness, but the results are impressive as surgeons, fitness consultants and hairdressers work their magic.

Of Note

"Dawson's Creek," 7 p.m., WB. It's a busy time for Joey (Katie Holmes), who is studying for finals at college while considering leaving with Eddie (Oliver Hudson).

"The West Wing," 8 p.m., NBC. The White House is in lockdown again after three shots are fired at a press conference.

"The Bachelor," 8 p.m. to 9:10 p.m., ABC. The field of women is sliced from six to four in an episode that runs 10 minutes long, trimming "Extreme Makeover."

"The Bernie Mac Show," 8 p.m., Fox. Theresa Saldana plays Bernie's new maid who is wonderful until the kids step in.

"Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport," 9 p.m., PBS. Deborah Oppenheimer produces light comedies, including the shows starring Drew Carey, George Lopez and Wanda Sykes. Still, she was also fascinated by the effort that sent 10,000 Jewish children (including her mother) out of Nazi-held territories in 1939. This ambitious documentary that first aired in 2000 won an Oscar.
