Okumura helps Pacific sweep

Advertiser Staff

Estée Okumura hit a walk-off home run to win the first game and scored a hustle run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the second game as University of the Pacific swept a softball doubleheader from San Jose State, 2-0 and 3-2, yesterday in Stockton, Calif.

Okumura, a 1999 Punahou School graduate from Kapahulu, also hit a home run in the second game. She figured in all five Pacific runs in the doubleheader, driving in four and scoring three.

Okumura, a senior center fielder, hit a two-run homer over the right-field fence to break a scoreless tie in the seventh inning of game one.

She hit another two-run homer in the second inning of the second game to give Pacific a 2-0 lead, but San Jose State tied the score at 2.

Okumura led off the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. On the next pitch, Okumura stole third, then scored as the catcher's throw sailed into left field.
