HPU, UH-Hilo lose on the road

Cal Poly Pomona pounded out 17 hits and turned a triple play to trounce Hawai'i Pacific, 13-8, yesterday at Scolinos Field in Pomona, Calif.

Benny Winslow batted 4-for-5, including three doubles, and drove in a career-high six runs for Pomona (13-34).

Derek Little had three hits, including a home run, and Grandon Costa and Alika Kuraoka each had two hits for HPU (22-20).

The score was 7-7 in the fifth when the first two Sea Warriors got on base. Little then hit a sinking line drive to left field, where Victor Yoshida made a spectacular diving catch. He got up quickly and fired to second baseman Winslow to double up Scott Hunter. Winslow then threw to first baseman Jason Stuck to catch Justin Wolfer off the bag.
