In the late 1930s, Doris Duke built her Honolulu home, Shangri La, on five acres of property overlooking the Pacific and Diamond Head. The Moorish home houses Duke's extensive collection of Islamic art, which she assembled over more than 60 years.

Tours are available through the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The tour begins at the art museum, with a viewing of the "Arts of the Islamic World" exhibition and a short video introducing Shangri La. Groups of 12 then board minivans for the drive to Shangri La.

Tours last approximately 2 1/2 hours, 1 1/2 hours of which are at the mansion.
