Nickles sets pole vault mark

Advertiser Staff

Chun Mei Nickles of Mililani set a meet record in the girls pole vault at 11 feet, 1 inch, yesterday at the Punahou Relays.

Nickles and Micah Strickland of Punahou were named the outstanding athletes of the relays.

Nickles' vault was the best since girls pole vault started in 1999. Nickles had cleared 11-0 earlier this year, tying the previous best, set by Nicolette Rowe. Rowe cleared 11-0 in the 2000 state meet.

Daniel Inferrera, a freshman wide receiver with the University of Hawai'i football team, won the Hawai'i's Fastest Human race in 11.01 seconds.
