Sitter released after questioning

A 23-year-old baby sitter from 'Ewa Beach arrested for questioning Friday about fatal injuries suffered by a 2 1/2-year-old boy left in her care was released on the same day.

Homicide Lt. Bill Kato said the child, identified as Jose M. Flores, was treated for a spiral fracture of the left leg at Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi earlier this month. A spiral fracture in a young child generally attracts the attention of physicians, Child Protective Service and police because it is a sign of possible abuse, Kato said.

The child died Thursday of "shaken baby syndrome," police said.
