University of Hawai'i outside hitter Costas Theocharidis today was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association's national Player of the Year.

Theocharidis, who won the award as a sophomore in 2001, becomes the Warriors' first four-time, first-team All-American.

Outside hitter Tony Ching, a Kamehameha Schools graduate, and sophomore middle blocker Delano Thomas of Sacramento also were named to the first team.

Ching and Theocharidis completed their college eligibility last week.

"I'm real happy for the three guys," UH coach Mike Wilton said. "They deserve the recognition they're getting."
